The area was once one of the richest gold mining locations in California. While Dutch Flat was originally settled by miners, it first gained prominence as an important stagecoach stop, making it one of the largest and most important towns in Placer County from about 1864 to 1866.

Founded in the 1970s, the Dutch Flat RV Resort Campground has been a family-run business for over 40 years. Originally a small campsite with only a few tent sites, Dutch Flat RV Resort has grown to become one of the premier camping destinations in California.

- From Interstate 80 take Exit #145, Dutch Flat
- Go to the South side of freeway
- Proceed through the gas station parking lot to the park entrance
