Dutch Flat was founded in 1851 during the California Gold Rush by German immigrant brothers Joseph and Charles Dornbach. Originally called "Dutch Charlie's Flat", the town quickly became an important stagecoach stop and played a controversial role in the early routing of the Central Pacific Railroad. In the 1870s, the town experienced a massive boom in hydraulic gold mining. During its height, Dutch Flat also supported a booming lumber industry, housed one of the largest Chinese settlements outside San Francisco, and fostered a vibrant cultural scene that earned it the nickname "the Athens of the Foothills," drawing visits from famous literary figures like Mark Twain and Bret Harte.
Founded in the 1970s, the Dutch Flat RV Resort has been a family run business for over 40 years. Originally a small campground with only a few tent sites, it has since grown to become a premier camping destination in California.

Nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Dutch Flat RV Resort offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere. Our 120-acre property is surrounded by towering trees and a nearby creek that's perfect for wading and gold panning. We offer a variety of camping options, from tent sites to RV hookups to cozy motel rooms.
